Disher is partnering with a Michigan based company, in their need for a full-time Application Lab Engineer for their facility in Zeeland, Michigan
 
The Applications Lab Engineer reviews and assesses customer assembly projects and provides a formal recommendation regarding feasibility, best methods, potential issues and process options. As an extension of the sales team, the Applications Lab engineer supports sales efforts with plastics expertise, consultation, problem solving, testing, evaluation and analysis.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Operate all lab equipment and standard machines and manage complex lab projects. 
  • Work with customers of the company to develop part features that optimize part joining and assembly performance.
  • Determine the best machine and tool options for processing customer parts and provide input for sales and quoting.
  • Determine the steps required to manufacture parts to customer specifications and determine parameters and allowable variation for each step.
  • Conduct process development experiments to determine process limitations and possibilities.
  • Interface with customers and assist in machine concepting and quoting activities when needed.
  • Create and maintain application lab records including reports, drawings, models, and other documents.
  • Assist customers by providing on-site training, product presentations, process development and process improvement support.
  • Support the sales team by organizing and working trade shows, developing and presenting technical seminars and publishing industry white papers.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Science program.  
  • Knowledge of manual and automated assembly equipment.
  • Understanding of plastic part design, composition, and plastic joining methods.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and analysis during design assessment and testing.
  • Design software experience to review and create drawings and models, SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to document technical information, clarify unclear issues, convey information to customers and sales team, and maintain detail accuracy.
  • Work may require non-typical work hours including Saturdays and occasional overnight domestic and international travel.
  • Work will include lifting and positioning of tools and parts.
  • Must have current and continuing right to work in the USA without sponsorship.
