Industrial Designer – Zeeland, MI
DISHER is looking for an experienced Industrial Designer who can overlap significantly with engineering while focusing on the aesthetic and user-interface aspects early in the fuzzy front end of the product development process.
You will work in our Discovery group which combines consumer insights, 3D invention, and market impact to develop new products for clients. The team consists of product strategy, industrial design, graphic design, research, model making, and engineering. You will play in all of these areas as you work in tandem to provide design solutions to the team and to our clients. You must be a strong communicator as you present design concepts to technical and non-technical client audiences.

This role is full-time at our office in the historic Colonial Clock Building in Zeeland, MI.

Experience requirements for this role:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design required
  • 5+ years of industrial design experience essential
  • Automotive Industry experience required
  • Excellent Portfolio demonstrating diversity of industry and product experience  
  • Training or experience in consumer insight research methods
  • Demonstrated strengths in digital rendering and sketching (Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop, Rhino, Keyshot, etc. experience)
  • Highly creative and conceptual with strong creative problem solving skills
  • Strong communication skills with employees & clients
  • Visual Communication and presentation skills
  • Familiar with model making including a wide range of materials and processes
  • Demonstrated ability leading multi-functional project teams
For this role, you should be:
  • An unusual blend of creativity and analytics with a keen eye for aesthetic quality and an understanding of the technical solutions to achieve it.
  • Able to work effectively within the team and be fully prepared to take command of client interface and relationships.
  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing processes and their advantages, limitations, and resulting design constraints.
  • Prepared for a Nerf gun ambush at any time!
  • aware of new technological developments with particular reference to the evolution of the consumer products industry.
  • Fast paced and entrepreneurial, ready to manage multiple tasks at a time.
  • Well versed in design validation tools, testing, and processes.
  • Currently legally authorized to work in the United States of America for any employer without restrictions or expirations.
