DISHER is currently searching for an Automation Engineer who can be the spark-plug for an amazing team.
 
We are looking for an Automation Engineer who will organize DISHER’s path in the Automation marketplace.  In addition to setting the vision, this problem-solver will have the opportunity to work on a variety of types of projects, automation systems, industries with our area customers in Zeeland, Michigan.  If this sounds like you, we would like to start a conversation:

What you will get to do:
We are looking for someone who will make a significant and financial impact on an automation initiative at DISHER.  The Automation Engineer will accomplish this by developing a plan and vision for the initiative, and pushing it forward by identifying the people, technology, tools, and skills to see it through. 
  • Spend 25-50% of your time on planning for the future; whether that is vision mapping, researching new software, hiring engineers for the team, or other work to break into the automation market. 
  • Spend the rest of your time on valuable project work to maintain and grow your skills in automation and manufacturing engineering.
 
As a part of the team, you will contribute with the following day-to-day work.  These responsibilities will call on you to foster and nurture relationships with customers.
 
  • On automation projects, work up to 70% of time on the floor to troubleshoot and correct issues and improve processes.
  • Troubleshoot and support production equipment using Programmable Multi Axis Controllers (PMAC), or other control platforms.
  • Layout and use of current networks, such as DeviceNet, PROFIBUS, EtherNet/IP.
  • Work with many different aspects of controls, from system design to programming.
  • Work in a variety of project roles based on customer needs, including Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Defend your team against a Nerf Gun infiltration by another DISHER Team.
  • Manage multiple projects/programs at one time.
  • Capital equipment procurement.
  • Coffee consumption for your own rejuvenation.
  • Manage your customer accounts and relationships.
  • Coach and develop engineering teammates as needed.
  • Manage personal work schedule.
  • Continuous improvement projects with your team.
 
What will make you successful:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with mechanical aptitude/experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with automation training/experience; or similar.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in Automation Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Ability to travel 10-30% of the time to customer sites.
  • Dreaming about the future of the Automation Engineering industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
  • A team-based and creative approach to problem solving.
  • A working knowledge of various types of automation hardware.
  • Allen Bradley RSLogix 5, 500, and 5000, or similar, experience.
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming experience.
  • Experience with database applications, such as SQL Database.
  • Experience with collaborative robots is a plus.
  • Pneumatics or hydraulic experience is a plus.
  • Candidate must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States of America for any employer without restrictions or expirations.
